Just like in areas throughout the country, Davidson County families love celebrating Independence Day with fireworks. Whether they're from a tent in a shopping center parking lot, the bin at the front of the grocery store, or leftovers from a trip to South Carolina, we all love coming together to light up the early July skies. But fireworks at home can be a dangerous proposition, and like everything else around here, it's more fun to celebrate with our friends, so why don't you check out the Fireworks at High Rock Lake?
The fireworks at High Rock Lake are a special tradition here in Davidson County. They're the labor of love of Julia Euliss, who single handedly organizes and raises funds for the event throughout the year. The event this year will take place on Sunday, July 3rd, beginning with music from Karaoke Knight at 7pm. Prior to the fireworks at dusk there will be patriotic display that includes the presentation of the colors, a salute to active and veteran service members and their families, and the national anthem. Music will pause for the fireworks themselves, but then resume until 11pm. All of this happens at the High Rock Boat Dock Marina at 339 N Shore Drive in Lexington, but the fireworks can be seen from much further. Julia emotionally describes the scene of a flotilla of the green and red lights of boats coming down the lake to view the fireworks as the sun sets, and the Highway 8 filling up with folks lining up in their cars to watch the fireworks “drive-in movie style.”
